Cyrus International School Enhances Digital Education for its Learners

Cyrus International School located at Tema Community 2 has taken a bold step to enhance digital education for its students. The school has partnered with afiDE Ghana (RGC) for RGC’s computerlab-as-a-service initiative to promote digital education.

RGC has installed 21 workstations for the school, one workstation for the educator, and 20 workstations for the students. The computerlab comes with Ghana Education Service’s ICT-approved curriculum software, remote monitoring, regular hardware and software maintenance, a central server and switch, an Uninterrupted Power Supply(UPS) backup battery, an 8/5 help desk, a 4G router with monthly internet data, and teacher training and support.

RGC’s initiative takes into account the high cost and headache of maintaining a modern computerlab for schools in Ghana. RGC is responsible for the smooth operation of the computerlab, so that partner schools can focus on providing effective and quality digital education to its learners, which will prepare them for the data and digital-driven world, and in the end help the nation develop.

TEACHER TRAINING AND SUPPORT

On 31st October 2024, afiDE Ghana conducted a base training for the teachers at Cyrus International School to kick start the use of the computerlab. The teachers were empowered with basic ICT skills they needed to improve their teaching skills. RGC facilitator took the teachers through some basic ICT software, such as TIP10, Scratch, and GES-approved educational software

During the training, the educators were taught how to use and maintain the computerlab, and basic rules and regulations regarding RGC’s computerlab.

Kwajen International School Takes a Further Step To Improve Digital Education For Its Learners

Kwajen International School in partnership with afiDE Ghana (RGC) has taken a step further to improve digital education for the students in the school.

On the 10th of October, 2024, RGC setup a 21 workstation computerlab for Kwajen International School, 20 for the learners and 1 for the ICT facilitator. RGC will also maintain, repair, replace, and update the software for the workstation so that the computerlabs can be sustain and useful to the school for a long time. Learners will have practical experience with some Microsoft Office suite software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher. Other educational software including GIMP, TIP10, Scratch are also added to enhance the learning experience. These software will prepare the school’s students with the basic digital skills they need in the future.

BASE TRAINING

As always, after installation comes the base training. After a successful set up, RGC conducted a base training for the educators at KIS. This focused on the usage of our devices/service which includes the workstations, and the server.

RGC understands that most educators in Ghana do not know how to operate computers, and how to care for a computerlabs. So, RGC trains teachers about basic ICT knowledge and skills they need to improve their productivity and train the students to acquire relevant ICT skills.
