Digital Education – afiDE Ghana Partners with Glory Hills International School.

Digital Education – afiDE Ghana Partners with Glory Hills International School.

afiDE Ghana (RGC) has partnered with Glory Hills International School at Adenta, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana to establish a ultra-modern computerlab for its learners.

RGC installed 21-workstations to boost digital education, and digital literacy, not just for the learners of the school but for the educators. The 21-workstation computerlab comes with a server, Thin client, internet, an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), Ghana’s ICT curriculum software, and other software that are relevant for students in this day and age

Some of these software are; Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word Document, and Publisher. Other software includes GIMP for editing images, TIP10 for typing lessons, Scratch for coding, and some generic applications such as File Manager, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, File Explorer, Recycle Bin, and PDF Reader.

RGC will monitor, maintain, replace, and update the software, so that the teachers and the learners of the school can consistently have access to a well-equipped computerlab. Data proves that schools with computerlabs in Ghana struggle to sustain the lab or do not have the resources to maintain it for a long period, as a result, these institutions end up lagging behind in ICT. To help solve this problem in our society, RGC goes beyond providing computerlabs for schools, we provide maintenance,  8/5 help-desk, remote monitoring and training to the facilitators

TRAINING

afiDE Ghana also conducted a base training for the educators at the school after the installation of the computerlab. The training was to empower all the teachers of the school with the basic ICT skills they need to train their learners to help them acquire and improve their ICT skills.

Most teachers in Ghana, including ICT facilitators, lack the basic and required ICT knowledge and skills, therefore, they resort to theory-based teaching instead of practical lessons. Due to this, learners do not experience full practical experience of the subject. Such situation

The vision RGC has for the educational sector is to provide solution to bridge the ICT-skill gap in Ghana.

Schools should take advantage of this opportunity to get quality digital education in their institution, which will boost the image of the school, increase career opportunities, and aim for the development of the nation in the long run.

Base Training Conducted at Kharister International Academy –Ho

Base Training Conducted at Kharistar International Academy –Ho

In Ghana’s educational landscape, a significant gap exists between the demand for digital literacy and the availability of skilled educators. afiDE Ghana (RGC) is bridging this gap through its Base Training program, designed to equip educators with essential ICT skills.

Reports indicate that many Ghanaian educators, including ICT facilitators, lack basic computer operation skills. This shortfall denies students hands-on ICT practical experience, hindering their preparation for a digital future.

To address this issue, RGC conducted a Base Training session for educators at Kharister International Academy in Ho. This comprehensive training covered basic workstation operation, understanding workstation components and functions, and familiarization with installed software.

By empowering educators with these skills, RGC’s Base Training enables them to effectively teach ICT skills, provide students with practical digital experience, and enhance overall digital education quality.

RGC’s commitment to digital education extends beyond training. By partnering with us, schools gain access to state-of-the-art computer labs, ongoing support, and resources necessary for enhanced digital education capabilities.

Invest in your students’ future, your school’s reputation, and Ghana’s digital prosperity. Partner with afiDE Ghana today to provide quality digital education.

afiDE Ghana and GSET, Trains Lotus Educational Centre Teachers

afiDE Ghana and GSET, Trains Lotus Educational Centre Teachers

afiDE Ghana (RGC), teamed up with the Ghana Society for Education Technology (GSET) to train teachers at Lotus Educational Center.

The training, which happened on Wednesday, 11th September 2024, took place at the premises of Lotus Educational Centre. Teachers from various classes, including but not limited to the Headmistress, ICT teacher, Math and Science teachers, and others.

The focus of the training is to empower the teachers to use the workstations. The training focused on foundational computing concepts, including essential hardware, software, and operating systems, which will help them introduce these basics to their learners.

RGC set up a computer lab for Lotus International Centre in August, to provide ICT education to learners. The computer lab was furnished with 21 workstations with Ghana Education Service’s ICT-approved curriculum.

Research has proven that teachers in most educational institutions in Ghana lack basic ICT knowledge and skills. Most teachers focus on the theory and leave out the practical due to a lack of ICT resources or knowledge/skills.

To solve this issue, RGC teams up with GSET to train teachers on how to manage and use the workstations effectively.

The training is in four modules;

  • Module 1– focused on foundational computing concepts, including essential hardware, software, and operating systems, which will help them introduce these basics to their learners.
  • Module 2 – focused on productivity software, where teachers learn how to use tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation programs to enable them to integrate these tools into their lessons effectively.
  • Module 3 – focused on communication networks and the internet, gaining a deeper understanding of networking basics and how these technologies can be utilized in the classroom.
  • Module 4 – focused on computational thinking and algorithms, acquiring problem-solving skills and methods to design algorithms that can be taught to students.

Lotus Educational Centre has completed the first module and is ready to move to Module 2.
