As part of this initiative, educators at the school recently took part in a base training organized by Computerlabs Ghana. The training introduced teachers to the computerlab setup and guided them on proper usage, maintenance, and security of the workstations. Participants also explored Ghana Education Service-approved applications and other educational software installed on the workstations, gaining practical skills to integrate digital tools across all subjects. At the end of the training, teachers received certificates in recognition of their participation.

Before the training, Computerlabs Ghana installed a 21-workstation computerlab at King Jesus International School, including a central server, UPS battery, switch, and 4G router with internet data. To ensure sustainability, the school will benefit from routine maintenance, equipment replacement, repair services, and access to a dedicated help desk for technical support.

School leaders say the partnership will equip students with essential digital skills for higher education and future careers while giving teachers the confidence to innovate in the classroom. Dora Memorial School Complex in Ho has taken a bold step toward transforming teaching and learning by partnering with Computerlabs Ghana to introduce sustainable digital education. Computerlabs Ghana (CLG) and the Ghana Society for Education and Technology (GSET) have trained selected Computing educators to become certified and sustainable digital education trainers in Ghana. The training is one part of the 4 types of digital education training that CLG provides to its partner schools’ educators.

The two-day workshops, held from August 21st to 22nd at West Legon Academy, a partner school, aimed to equip educators with the technological knowledge and skills necessary to empower their colleagues. Also, to build a pool of highly competent facilitators who can confidently represent CLG in delivering Base, Bronze, and Silver trainings to teachers and learners in Ghana.

After the training, the trained educators are expected to apply advanced facilitation techniques and pedagogical approaches aligned with CLG’s framework, demonstrate mastery of instructional designs, delivery, and reflective practice, and also serve as certified CLG Trainers, strengthening the organization’s training capacity nationwide.

Computerlabs Ghana, currently the only social enterprise in Ghana that provides sustainable digital education for schools, is on a mission to promote or enhance digital literacy, bridge the digital gap, and prepare the current and the next generation for the digital world.

BACKGROUND

Through research, CLG discovered that most schools in Ghana lack sustainable digital education, due to various factors, including educators lacking the requisite digital knowledge and skills that they need to teach the learners. CLG, as part of its digital-education-as-service, provides stages of training for partner schools’ educators, including the gold training. Through gold training, CLG aims to equip more teachers with the technological skills needed today. The newly trained educators will, in turn, train others, helping ensure that most teachers in the country become digitally skilled and ready for modern classrooms.

Golden Foundation School(GFS) Lays Foundation for Sustainable Digital Education in their School

Golden Foundation School, located at Blue Street, New Achimota, Accra, has laid a solid foundation to provide sustainable digital education for the teachers and the students in the school.

In August 2025, the GFS, through TeachAide, partnered with Computerlabs Ghana(CLG). After the agreement, CLG installed 21 computers for the school. The computers came with a 4G MTN Router, a UPS Battery, a server, and a classroom screen.

CLG, as part of the partnership deal, will provide maintenance, repair, replacement of damaged devices, help desk, and remote monitoring. This will help the school provide effective and efficient digital education.

Also, the computers have preinstalled Ghana Education Service(GES) approved software and other educational software such as TIP10, GIMP, Scratch, and so on.

 

BASE TRAINING                                   

On the 19th of August 2025, Computerlabs Ghana conducted a base training for the educators at Golden Foundation School. CLG’s teacher trainer, Emmanuel Sefadzi, took the teachers through the basic setup of our CLG’s computer lab, the rules and regulations regarding the lab, and the kind of educational software installed on the computers.

The teacher trainer entreated the teachers to master digital skills so that they do not fall behind, and also to provide the right digital skills lessons to the students.

Computerlabs Ghana Partners with PAMEPI to provide sustainable digital education for selected schools in the Northern Region

Computerlabs Ghana (CLG) has partnered with the Paabinaa Meriga Peace Initiative (PAMEPI) to deliver sustainable digital education to selected schools in the Northern Region of Ghana. This groundbreaking initiative aims to empower schools, teachers, and students—particularly in underserved communities that lack functioning and sustainable ICT infrastructure—to access the tools and skills they need for the digital age.

Through the partnership, CLG and PAMEPI will work together to install over 21,000 computers, impact more than 31,000 students, renovate ICT rooms in partner schools, and provide comprehensive digital education training for teachers.

To launch the program, CLG has completed a pilot installation of 63 computers at Business Senior High School in Tamale. This pilot will help the organization better understand the digital learning needs and behaviors of both teachers and students, enabling them to refine their digital education-as-a-service model for long-term sustainability in the region.

The computers come equipped with 4G MTN routers, a monthly internet bundle, and GES-approved educational software. CLG will also provide regular maintenance, repairs, replacements, and technical support to ensure uninterrupted learning.

On May 5, 2025, CLG and PAMEPI officially launched the new computer lab at Business Senior High School. Speaking at the event, Pim de Bokx, General Manager of Computerlabs Ghana, emphasized that the lack of sustainable digital education is a national challenge, largely due to the absence of ongoing technical support after computers are purchased or donated. He described the partnership with PAMEPI as a crucial turning point for schools in the Northern Region, one that will prepare students for the future and contribute to Ghana’s development.

The Chief Executive Director of PAMEPI highlighted the urgent need for such an initiative, recalling how in the past, computing facilitators had to use stones to explain what a computer mouse looked like. “It is time we put an end to such outdated teaching methods,” she said. “This initiative is a bridge to dignity and dreams for the future leaders of this country in a digitally driven world.” She also shared her vision of a future where more women in the Northern Region become digital innovators, people with disabilities have equal access to ICT, and no learner is left behind.

A representative of the Regional Director of Education commended the project as one that aligns with Ghana Education Service (GES) policy and urged CLG to expand its reach to other regions so more schools can benefit from sustainable digital education.

Sustainable Digital Education: Computerlabs Ghana Trains Computing Educators

Computerlabs Ghana, trading as afiDE Ghana, recently conducted a series of advanced digital education training sessions for Computing facilitators from partner schools in the Greater Accra Region. These trainings are part of our commitment to building sustainable digital education across Ghana.

The sessions were held at three locations: Fiakonya DA Basic School (Fiakonya), Mikel International School (Lebanon), and Kwabenya Senior High School (Kwabenya) between May 8 and May 29, 2025.

The training covered four key areas:

Introduction to Computing: Basics of computer systems, digital technologies in the community, and the role of computing in everyday life.

Productivity Software: Hands-on training in Microsoft Word, Excel, Databases, and PowerPoint, with a focus on classroom and administrative use.

Communication and Networks: Internet safety, email usage, types of networks, and fundamental data transmission concepts.

Computational Thinking, AI, and Robotics: Problem-solving strategies, algorithmic thinking, basic coding principles, and exposure to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics.

The training sessions were highly practical and designed to reflect the tools available in our computer labs. By the end of the program, participants reported increased confidence and competence in teaching computing. They are now better equipped to deliver the curriculum effectively, using technology to enrich the digital learning experience for their students.

Computerlabs Ghana(CLG) Impact Report: Stakeholders Very Satisfied with Computerlabs-as-a-service (CaaS) Model.

Over the past three years, Computerlabs Ghana (CLG)—now operating under the brand name afiDE Ghana (RGC)—has delivered its innovative Computerlab-as-a-Service (CaaS) model to 41 partner schools across Ghana. This initiative has positively impacted over 13,000 ICT learners and more than 416 educators, helping to transform digital education in the country.

In a recent monitoring and evaluation exercise, CLG engaged directly with stakeholders: school administrators, teachers, and students to assess the effectiveness of its services and identify areas for improvement.

Key Findings from the Impact Assessment:

  • 64% of stakeholders expressed being either very satisfied or satisfied with the implementation of the CaaS model.
  • 79% of partner schools have successfully integrated the use of the computer labs into their academic timetables.
  • 57% of schools reported a noticeable improvement in student academic performance due to the use of the labs.
  • 57% of schools have formally allocated a budget for digital education, with 43% still in progress toward that goal.
  • 71% of stakeholders observed that teachers are increasingly utilizing interactive and digital teaching resources.
  • 57% of stakeholders noted a shift towards more student-centered activities in classrooms, enabled by the lab environment.

Teachers highlighted that the labs made it easier to provide personalized support and one-on-one feedback to students.

Student Experience and Outcomes:

  • 85% of students reported moderate to significant improvement in engagement, practical ICT skills, and academic performance.
  • An overwhelming 93% of students indicated that they enjoy their digital education classes.
  • 64% of students use the labs regularly (2–3 times per week), citing access to new digital resources as a major benefit.

This data illustrates that CLG’s CaaS model is not only effective but also sustainable, laying the foundation for a more inclusive and future-ready education system. By equipping students with digital literacy and practical tech skills, the program increases their employment prospects and capacity to contribute meaningfully to national development.

To deepen its impact, Computerlabs Ghana (afiDE Ghana) recently held a stakeholder engagement session to gather insights on how to further enhance its offerings, particularly its emerging Digital Education-as-a-Service (DEaS) initiative. This session aimed to explore challenges, review the effectiveness of current programs, explore new brand name, logo and strategize on scaling digital learning in a sustainable way.

Shaping the Future: Radiant Oak Academy and afiDE Ghana Boost Digital Learning

Radiant Oak Academy has partnered with afiDE Ghana to set up a 21-workstation computerlab, enhancing technology-driven education in the school. As part of the partnership, afiDE Ghana will also train and support the school’s computing facilitators, equipping them with the skills to effectively teach and utilize the modern computers and software provided.

afiDE Ghana will also train and support the computing facilitators of the school to better understand how to teach and use the modern computers and software setup by RecellGhana Computer labs. Additionally, Radiant Oak Academy will have access to a 24-hour help desk, a backup battery, hardware and software maintenance, replacement of faulty equipment, and remote monitoring to make sure the computer lab is fully functioning.

afiDE Ghana has also conducted a base training session for the educators of the school to initiate the use of the computer lab. The training covered the basic units of RGC’s computerlabs. The training took place on 11th February 2025 at the premises of Radiant Oak Academy.

This training will enable educators to integrate technology effectively into their teaching and enhance their productivity in the workplace. The teacher training is valuable for educators, as data indicates that many teachers in Ghana are not technologically or digitally proficient, resulting in a lack of the necessary computing resources to effectively teach students. Base Training:

The base training focuses on empowering teachers with the essential skills to effectively utilize our computer labs for teaching. This foundational training ensures educators can confidently navigate the basics and integrate digital tools into their lessons. Bronze Training: The training is designed specifically for computing facilitators and ICT coordinators; the training enables mastery of the National ICT Curriculum and the full spectrum of our application landscape.

It emphasizes challenge-based and project-based learning, preparing facilitators to lead innovative and interactive digital education. Silver Training: The silver training is also tailored for teachers of other subjects; this training demonstrates how to leverage our computer labs to enhance lessons in STEM, geography, history, and more.

It equips educators with the skills to integrate digital resources into their teaching, enriching the learning experience across diverse disciplines. Gold Training: This is aimed at experienced computer lab teachers and coordinators; this level focuses on developing them into trainers for their peers.
