Empowering Ghana’s Education: The Digital Leap Forward

In the heart of Ghana, a transformative initiative is underway, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s educational landscape. The Ghana Society for Education Technology (GSET) and afiDE Ghana (RGC) have embarked on a visionary partnership to elevate the standards of digital education and skills training across the country.

Since June 2024, this collaboration has been the driving force behind the creation of innovative educational content, specifically designed to empower School Leaders and Policymakers with the tools necessary to implement digital education effectively. The synergy between GSET and RGC is set to bear its first fruit with a high-level Seminar for Leaders and Policymakers scheduled for July 4th at the British Council in Accra, a gathering that promises to be a catalyst for change.

The commitment of both organizations to lead the transition to computer-based education is evident in their proactive approach. By selecting a team of adept trainers from GSET, including Miriam Ocloo, Albert Dunoo, and project leader Noble Dzreh, to join forces with RGC’s Brianna Dika and Aisha Mohammed, they aim to craft workshops, courses, and training materials that will build the capacity of school leaders and teachers in the realm of digital education.

Localised content aligned to Ghana’s new curriculum

The training programs are meticulously designed to resonate with the Ghanaian context, aligning with the national curriculum and educational levels. These sessions, optimized for integration with RGC’s Computerlabs, will be offered free of charge to all partner schools, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. Teachers participating in these programs will have the opportunity to enhance their expertise, progressing from basic to Gold level, and ultimately becoming ‘Trainers of Teachers in Digital Education’. New courses for teachers will be released at the start of the new academic year.

Leading the change in computer-based education

This initiative is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about shaping the future of education in Ghana. Well-trained educators are the cornerstone of high-quality education, and through this partnership, GSET and RGC are nurturing a generation of teachers equipped to unlock the full potential of digital skills among students.

As this collaboration unfolds, it invites other stakeholders to join in the mission to unlock digital skills with students in Ghana. It’s a call to action for those who envision a future where education is synonymous with innovation and where every student is prepared to thrive in a digital world.
