International Day of Digital Learning – Lead with Us

Today, we join partners around the world in marking the International Day of Digital Learning, guided by UNESCO’s 2026 theme:

Building Digital Futures for Public Education

For afiDE Ghana, this theme speaks directly to the heart of our work. Schools cannot build their digital future with tools alone. They need reliable infrastructure, professional management, continuous support, and leaders who can guide digital transformation with confidence.

This is why afiDE Ghana delivers to it’s member schools Digital Education as a Service (DEaS) — a sustainable, professionally managed model that ensures every school can access modern digital learning environments without the burden of owning, maintaining, or troubleshooting technology on their own.

International Digital Education Day 2026. Lead by UNESCO, UNICEF and ITU, supported by afiDE Ghana.

Digital Education as a Service (DEaS): A Sustainable Model for Schools

DEaS equips schools with everything required to make digital learning work — not once, but every day:

    1. A stable, modern digital learning environment with one of our Computerlabs
    2. Continual maintenance, updates, and professional support
    3. Teacher development and coaching in digital pedagogy
    4. Tools for data‑driven improvement
    5. Long‑term financial and operational sustainability

With DEaS, schools benefit from services that function reliably, so teachers can teach, learners can learn, and leaders can focus on leading.

Digital Futures Depend on Digital Leadership

While infrastructure matters, technology alone cannot change a school. Leadership does.

This is why afiDE Ghana’s theme for 2026 is: Shaping Leadership of Digital Education.

Strong digital leaders are essential for:

    • Setting a clear digital vision
    • Supporting teachers in adopting new methods
    • Making informed decisions based on school data
    • Creating a culture where technology is used with purpose
    • Ensuring sustainability long after new systems are introduced

Our Leadership Academy, launching in 2026, strengthens these leadership capacities—ensuring every school that adopts DEaS also develops the leadership needed to make digital learning thrive.

A Shared Responsibility for the Future

“Building Digital Futures for Public Education” is not the task of a single institution. It is a shared responsibility across educators, communities, partners, and policymakers.

afiDE Ghana is honoured to support this national effort by providing the systems, services, and leadership development needed to help every school move confidently into the digital age.

Digital futures do not happen by chance. They are built. And they are led.

GSET and RGC co-create Digital Education

Empowering Ghana’s Education: The Digital Leap Forward

In the heart of Ghana, a transformative initiative is underway, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s educational landscape. The Ghana Society for Education Technology (GSET) and afiDE Ghana (RGC) have embarked on a visionary partnership to elevate the standards of digital education and skills training across the country.

Since June 2024, this collaboration has been the driving force behind the creation of innovative educational content, specifically designed to empower School Leaders and Policymakers with the tools necessary to implement digital education effectively. The synergy between GSET and RGC is set to bear its first fruit with a high-level Seminar for Leaders and Policymakers scheduled for July 4th at the British Council in Accra, a gathering that promises to be a catalyst for change.

The commitment of both organizations to lead the transition to computer-based education is evident in their proactive approach. By selecting a team of adept trainers from GSET, including Miriam Ocloo, Albert Dunoo, and project leader Noble Dzreh, to join forces with RGC’s Brianna Dika and Aisha Mohammed, they aim to craft workshops, courses, and training materials that will build the capacity of school leaders and teachers in the realm of digital education.

Localised content aligned to Ghana’s new curriculum

The training programs are meticulously designed to resonate with the Ghanaian context, aligning with the national curriculum and educational levels. These sessions, optimized for integration with RGC’s Computerlabs, will be offered free of charge to all partner schools, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. Teachers participating in these programs will have the opportunity to enhance their expertise, progressing from basic to Gold level, and ultimately becoming ‘Trainers of Teachers in Digital Education’. New courses for teachers will be released at the start of the new academic year.

Leading the change in computer-based education

This initiative is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about shaping the future of education in Ghana. Well-trained educators are the cornerstone of high-quality education, and through this partnership, GSET and RGC are nurturing a generation of teachers equipped to unlock the full potential of digital skills among students.

As this collaboration unfolds, it invites other stakeholders to join in the mission to unlock digital skills with students in Ghana. It’s a call to action for those who envision a future where education is synonymous with innovation and where every student is prepared to thrive in a digital world.

Stay tuned for updates on this groundbreaking journey, as GSET and RGC continue to pave the way for a digitally empowered Ghana.

Empowering Ghanaian Students

A Recap of the '21st Century Student Skills' Seminar in Accra

On the 29th of November 2023, the bustling city of Accra, Ghana, played host to a transformative seminar at CENDLOS, organized by afiDE Ghana. Themed ’21st Century Student Skills: How to Advance Digital Skills with Students in Ghana?’, the event aimed to address the challenges hindering digital inclusion and education in the country.

Advance Digital Skills with Students in Ghana

The seminar kicked off with a warm welcome from Ms. Brianna Dika, the Start-up Leader of afiDE Ghana, who officially greeted the esteemed guests. Dr. Samuel A. Offori, the Director of Finance and Operations of CENDLOS, then addressed the audience, representing the Executive Director who was away on national duty.

Dr. Offori highlighted the significant technological developments in Ghana, particularly the introduction of the I-Box in 2002. He emphasized the crucial role of afiDE Ghana in providing investment-free Computerlabs, a vital step toward advancing ICT development in the country.

Keynote Presentation by Dr. Kofi Sappong Adu Manu

The highlight of the seminar was the keynote presentation by Dr. Kofi Sappong Adu Manu from University of Ghana, who expressed gratitude for the initiative. Dr. Manu shared statistical data revealing Ghana’s exponential growth rate of 4.9% since 2017 due to digital inclusion. However, he highlighted the challenge that only 18% of Ghanaian students possess digital skills, with a mere 2% having advanced skills, limiting their opportunities.

Dr. Manu underscored the importance of digital skills development and proposed strategies for advancement. He called for joint efforts from the government and private individuals, mentorship programs, and other initiatives to empower both students and teachers.

Panel Discussion: ‘How to Make Computer-Based Education Available to All?’

A thought-provoking panel discussion followed, featuring Adjei Kwarteng, Rahinatu Yakubu Salifu, Miriam Ocloo, Yaw Affiamoah, and Hanc de Bokx. Moderated by Maxwell Sallassi, the panel addressed the challenges of integrating computer skills into education.

Rahinatu Yakubu Salifu, Headmistress of Kwabenya Senior High School, emphasized the lack of infrastructure as a major hindrance to computer skills training. She candidly stated, “Not only is the lack of computers a challenge, but also the continuous maintenance needs are a headache.”

Miriam Ocloo from G-SET highlighted their efforts to enhance digitalization through teacher training programs.

Hanc de Bokx, co-founder of afiDE Ghana, explained why he chose Ghana, citing the lack of ICT facilities in schools. His company’s innovative solution, ‘Computerlab-as-a-Service,’ aims to bridge this gap and address maintenance challenges.

Student Testimony and Inauguration of Computerlab at CENDLOS

The seminar showcased positive testimonials from students at Jay’s International and Acropolis Maranatha, who have benefited from afiDE Ghana. Attendees witnessed the inauguration of the Computerlab by Samuel A. Offori and Hanc de Bokx. This was followed by a demonstration of educating with our Computerlabs by Boampong Wilson ICT-teacher at Acropolis Maranatha Academy.

The event concluded on a high note, with participants enjoying refreshments and networking opportunities. The ’21st Century Student Skills’ seminar left a lasting impression, sparking a collective commitment to advancing digital skills and education in Ghana. afiDE Ghana continues to be a beacon of hope, determined to Advance Digital Skills with Students in Ghana.
