Evergreen Royal Academy Gains from RecellGhana’s Computer-Lab-as-a-Service Partnership

Evergreen Royal Academy in Tema Newtown has greatly benefited from its partnership with afiDE Ghana (RGC) through the computer-lab-as-a-service initiative, aimed at boosting digital education in the school. As part of this initiative, RGC has installed a fully equipped 21-workstation lab, complete with internet access, a server, an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), and other essential features.

In addition to the lab setup, RGC provides ongoing support, including help desk services, maintenance, and the repair or replacement of equipment. This ensures that both students and educators can make full use of the lab for an extended period.

The workstations are preloaded with software that aligns with Ghana’s ICT curriculum, including TIP10 for typing mastery and Scratch for coding, equipping students with critical digital skills. Recognizing the challenges many educators face due to a lack of ICT knowledge, RGC offers foundational training to empower them with basic skills. This training enhances their productivity and enables them to effectively support students in their digital education journey.

On October 17, 2024, RGC conducted a comprehensive ICT training for the educators at Evergreen Royal Academy. The training covered fundamental skills, including how to boot and operate the computers, an overview of the lab’s components, and the rules governing its use.

With this training complete, Evergreen Royal Academy is now ready to fully utilize the computer lab to enhance digital education within the school.

RGC is on a mission to close the digital education gap in Ghanaian society. Join us in empowering current and future generations with the essential digital skills they need.

Kwajen International School Takes a Further Step To Improve Digital Education For Its Learners

Kwajen International School Takes a Further Step To Improve Digital Education For Its Learners

Kwajen International School in partnership with afiDE Ghana (RGC) has taken a step further to improve digital education for the students in the school.

On the 10th of October, 2024, RGC setup a 21 workstation computerlab for Kwajen International School, 20 for the learners and 1 for the ICT facilitator. RGC will also maintain, repair, replace, and update the software for the workstation so that the computerlabs can be sustain and useful to the school for a long time. Learners will have practical experience with some Microsoft Office suite software such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher. Other educational software including GIMP, TIP10, Scratch are also added to enhance the learning experience. These software will prepare the school’s students with the basic digital skills they need in the future.

BASE TRAINING

As always, after installation comes the base training. After a successful set up, RGC conducted a base training for the educators at KIS. This focused on the usage of our devices/service which includes the workstations, and the server.

RGC understands that most educators in Ghana do not know how to operate computers, and how to care for a computerlabs. So, RGC trains teachers about basic ICT knowledge and skills they need to improve their productivity and train the students to acquire relevant ICT skills.

Digital Education – afiDE Ghana Partners with Glory Hills International School.

afiDE Ghana (RGC) has partnered with Glory Hills International School at Adenta, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana to establish a ultra-modern computerlab for its learners.

RGC installed 21-workstations to boost digital education, and digital literacy, not just for the learners of the school but for the educators. The 21-workstation computerlab comes with a server, Thin client, internet, an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), Ghana’s ICT curriculum software, and other software that are relevant for students in this day and age

Some of these software are; Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word Document, and Publisher. Other software includes GIMP for editing images, TIP10 for typing lessons, Scratch for coding, and some generic applications such as File Manager, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, File Explorer, Recycle Bin, and PDF Reader.

RGC will monitor, maintain, replace, and update the software, so that the teachers and the learners of the school can consistently have access to a well-equipped computerlab. Data proves that schools with computerlabs in Ghana struggle to sustain the lab or do not have the resources to maintain it for a long period, as a result, these institutions end up lagging behind in ICT. To help solve this problem in our society, RGC goes beyond providing computerlabs for schools, we provide maintenance,  8/5 help-desk, remote monitoring and training to the facilitators

TRAINING

afiDE Ghana also conducted a base training for the educators at the school after the installation of the computerlab. The training was to empower all the teachers of the school with the basic ICT skills they need to train their learners to help them acquire and improve their ICT skills.

Most teachers in Ghana, including ICT facilitators, lack the basic and required ICT knowledge and skills, therefore, they resort to theory-based teaching instead of practical lessons. Due to this, learners do not experience full practical experience of the subject. Such situation

The vision RGC has for the educational sector is to provide solution to bridge the ICT-skill gap in Ghana.

Schools should take advantage of this opportunity to get quality digital education in their institution, which will boost the image of the school, increase career opportunities, and aim for the development of the nation in the long run.

Base Training Conducted at Kharistar International Academy –Ho

In Ghana’s educational landscape, a significant gap exists between the demand for digital literacy and the availability of skilled educators. afiDE Ghana (RGC) is bridging this gap through its Base Training program, designed to equip educators with essential ICT skills.

Reports indicate that many Ghanaian educators, including ICT facilitators, lack basic computer operation skills. This shortfall denies students hands-on ICT practical experience, hindering their preparation for a digital future.

To address this issue, RGC conducted a Base Training session for educators at Kharister International Academy in Ho. This comprehensive training covered basic workstation operation, understanding workstation components and functions, and familiarization with installed software.

By empowering educators with these skills, RGC’s Base Training enables them to effectively teach ICT skills, provide students with practical digital experience, and enhance overall digital education quality.

RGC’s commitment to digital education extends beyond training. By partnering with us, schools gain access to state-of-the-art computer labs, ongoing support, and resources necessary for enhanced digital education capabilities.
