afiDE Ghana Organizes National Digital Education Conference in Partnership with GSET

afiDE Ghana Organizes National Digital Education Conference in Partnership with GSET

The National Digital Education Conference 2025, hosted by afiDE Ghana in partnership with GSET, brought together a diverse group of education leaders, teachers, policymakers, and EdTech partners for a full day dedicated to shaping the future of digital education in Ghana.

The conference provided a platform for meaningful conversations, collaboration, and vision-sharing at a time when technology continues to transform the learning landscape.

The event featured a keynote address by the Director of CENDLOS, Dr Diyawu Mumin, and a series of engaging sessions such as a panel discussion consisting of CENDLOS, NaCCA, Catholic Education Unit, and Fiakonya D/A Basic School, breakout sessions by GSET, Rotary, and Educare, and an Inspirational Talk led by Mr Harwell Asorwoe, Development and Recognition Manager for IB West Africa.

These sessions explored emerging trends, practical strategies, and innovative models that schools can adopt to enhance teaching and learning. A major highlight was the official launch of the Leadership Academy, a new initiative developed by afiDE Ghana to equip school leaders across the country with essential digital competencies.

The Academy aims to strengthen leadership capacity by offering targeted training that empowers school heads to effectively integrate technology into educational environments.

The significance of the conference was underscored by the presence of a representative from the Ministry of Education, who commended the organizers for their continued commitment to advancing digital learning in Ghana. The Ministry’s recognition affirmed the impact of afiDE Ghana’s work and its alignment with national priorities for educational transformation.

One of the most exciting moments of the day was the Coding 4 Kids Challenge, which showcased the creativity, problem-solving skills, and technological passion of young learners. Participants demonstrated impressive coding projects, reflecting both talent and innovation.

Jay’s International School once again emerged as the top winner, defending its title from the previous year. The success of the challenge was made possible through the support of Amalitech, a key partner dedicated to fostering digital skills among young people.

The conference concluded with a renewed sense of optimism and shared purpose. Stakeholders expressed confidence that through continued collaboration, investment in digital skills, and innovative approaches to education, Ghana can build a brighter, more connected, and technologically empowered future for all learners.

Together, afiDE Ghana, GSET, partners, and the broader educational community are paving the way for meaningful digital transformation across the nation.

afiDE Ghana(RGC) Partners with GSET to conduct an advance computing skills training for educators.

afiDE Ghana(RGC) in partnership with the Ghana Society for Education and Technology(GSET), has conducted advanced computing training for educators in some parts of the Greater Accra region of Ghana.

The advanced training, coined as bronze training, is an add-on to RGC’s base training, which focused on empowering computing facilitators, formerly ICT facilitators with comprehensive and advanced computing and digital education skills.

The training took place at three different places; Nsawam Methodist Primary School (Nsawam) and Acropolis Maranatha Academy (Pokuase) and Sege Community Lab (Sege-Ada West District) from 15th to 16th, 22nd to 23rd, and 29th to 30th October 2024, respectively. More than 50 computing teachers from different public and private schools in the region attended the bronze training.

The bronze training is a module built by RGC to help computing educators understand more advanced programming concepts such as data- structures, functions, and object-oriented programming. During the training, the teachers were made to undertake complex programming projects to prepare them to teach and encourage students to pursue coding initiatives and also, support and mentor students in advanced coding projects to foster their creativity and problem-solving skills.

The computing teachers learned and had on hand practical experience with database management systems such as MySQL, Microsoft Access, and so on. During the practical sessions, the teachers were able to extract meaningful information or insight from raw data to create reports and foster their data-driven decision-making in our educational sector.

Another key topic that was taught during the training was:

  • Networking: Teachers understood networking principles, including network types, protocols, and configurations.
  • Cybersecurity: Teachers implement cybersecurity best practices to protect networked systems.

Teachers were trained on how to manage and secure ICT environments in their schools, ensuring data privacy and network integrity, and also to take leadership roles in advocating for and implementing technology initiatives in their schools. In addition, teachers were maltreated to provide guidance and mentorship to students engaged in ICT-related projects in their various schools.

Teachers were encouraged to collaborate with non-computing teachers to facilitate technology integration across subjects and grade levels to help boost digital education within Ghanaian society. Teachers were also guided on how to create ICT policies aligned with educational goals and student needs, draft budgets for ICT projects, effectively allocate resources, and develop strategic plans for the seamless integration of ICT into the school curriculum.

afiDE Ghana is keen to provide a solution to the digital education gap within our society, by rendering our computerlab-a-service to schools in Ghana.

afiDE Ghana and GSET, Trains Lotus Educational Centre Teachers

afiDE Ghana (RGC), teamed up with the Ghana Society for Education Technology (GSET) to train teachers at Lotus Educational Center.

The training, which happened on Wednesday, 11th September 2024, took place at the premises of Lotus Educational Centre. Teachers from various classes, including but not limited to the Headmistress, ICT teacher, Math and Science teachers, and others.

The focus of the training is to empower the teachers to use the workstations. The training focused on foundational computing concepts, including essential hardware, software, and operating systems, which will help them introduce these basics to their learners.

RGC set up a computer lab for Lotus International Centre in August, to provide ICT education to learners. The computer lab was furnished with 21 workstations with Ghana Education Service’s ICT-approved curriculum.

Research has proven that teachers in most educational institutions in Ghana lack basic ICT knowledge and skills. Most teachers focus on the theory and leave out the practical due to a lack of ICT resources or knowledge/skills.

To solve this issue, RGC teams up with GSET to train teachers on how to manage and use the workstations effectively.

The training is in four modules;

  • Module 1– focused on foundational computing concepts, including essential hardware, software, and operating systems, which will help them introduce these basics to their learners.
  • Module 2 – focused on productivity software, where teachers learn how to use tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation programs to enable them to integrate these tools into their lessons effectively.
  • Module 3 – focused on communication networks and the internet, gaining a deeper understanding of networking basics and how these technologies can be utilized in the classroom.
  • Module 4 – focused on computational thinking and algorithms, acquiring problem-solving skills and methods to design algorithms that can be taught to students.

Lotus Educational Centre has completed the first module and is ready to move to Module 2.
