West Legon Academy Partners with afiDE Ghana (RGC) for Quality Digital Education in the School

West Legon Academy in Haatso of Greater Accra Region has partnered with afiDE Ghana for quality digital education for its educators and learners. The partnership will help curb the burden of maintaining a computer lab to promote digital education.

The school’s computer lab is equipped with 21 modern workstations, comprising one dedicated station for the computing facilitator and 20 student workstations. This setup ensures that every student has access to a personal workstation during lesson hours, providing an optimal learning environment

Most teachers in Ghana lack the requisite digital knowledge and skills that they need to thrive in the classrooms and the digital world. As part of RGC’s mandatory services, the entity provides four types of training to all partner schools. The training helps the educators prepare the teachers for the classroom and also makes them digitally inclined educators. The four types of training are Base Training, Bronze Training, Silver Training, and Gold Training.

 

BASE TRAINING AT WEST LEGON ACADEMY

On the 21st of January, 2025, afiDE Ghana conducted its first stage of training for partner school teachers; base training for 20 educators from West Legion Academy. The trainer took the educators through the basic setup of RGC’s Computerlab. They further discussed the hardware and software architecture of the labs.

RGC’s trainer also stated and explained the rules and regulations that the teachers must abide by so that the school’s computer lab can be well maintained. The trainer further empowered the school’s educators to monitor the activities of the students when they were using the lab.

Mobole D/A Basic School Transitions to Digital Education

Mobole D/A Basic School has transitioned to digital education after partnering with afiDE Ghana(RGC) to install a modern computer lab with 21 workstations for the school. The transition aims to promote digital education and eradicate digital illiteracy among teachers and students.

The transition to digital education will come with teacher training, internet, maintenance, repairs, and replacement to help the school get achieve sustainability.

RGC’s goal is to empower educators and students of Mobole D/A Basic School with digital knowledge and skills to prepare them for the digital world.

Digital literacy as a fourth literacy has become necessary to talk about in education. Although reading, writing, and mathematics are respected as the basis of being literate, literacy today is not complete if a person is incapable of accessing and creating digital information.

 

TEACHER TRAINING

Most Teachers in Ghana lack the requisite computing knowledge and skills to help improve teaching and learning, especially in this digital era. This has delayed Ghana’s transition to digital education and enhanced digital literacy.

RGC on the 10th of January 2024 organized a base training for the educators at Mobole D/A Basic School. The base training provides basic ICT knowledge to the teachers to kick start the use of their extra-modern computer lab.  This training is the first stage of RGC’s training to prepare the teachers and students to transition into digital education. The training tackles the basic components of afiDE Ghana, the rules and regulations, the hardware and software architecture, and how to care for the lab.

afiDE Ghana Partners with Precious Jesus School to Go Digital

afiDE Ghana(RGC) has partnered Precious Jesus School at Weija in the Weija Gbawe Municipality to transition to digital education. The transition will prepare teachers and the students for the digital world.

The school’s transition started when RGC installed 21 workstations with internet in the school’s computer lab.  The computing facilitator will have access to a dedicated workstation while the learners will have access to 20 workstations. Each student can have access to one workstation during the lesson.

For the transition to be sustainable, afiDE Ghana will provide internet, maintenance, replacement, repair, and teacher training for the school. RGC provides four stages of training for partner schools; base training, bronze training, silver training and gold training.

BASE TRAINING FOR PRECIOUS JESUS SCHOOL.

afiDE Ghana mission isn’t only about providing digital education to partner schools’ learners and empowering educators on how to use RGC’s computer labs to enhance teaching and learning.

afiDE Ghana conducted a base training for the teachers of Precious Jesus School. During the training, the teachers were taken through the basic setup of the labs. Also, the teachers were taken through the rules and regulations of the RGC’s computer lab.

The trainer took the teacher through some practical lessons using some of the applications on the workstations. After the training, some teachers testified that the training has been an eye-opener and cannot wait to partake in the next stages of RGC’s training.

Fiakonya D/A Basic School partners with afiDE Ghana for Sustainable Digital Literacy in the School

Fiakonya D/A Basic School in Dodowa in the greater Accra region of Ghana has partnered with afiDE Ghana to provide sustainable Digital Education in the school. The partnership aims to empower both the school’s educators and learners with the relevant digital literacy and skills they need to prepare them for the technological, digital, and data-driven world.

afiDE Ghana implemented its side of the partnership by setting up an ultra-modern computer lab with 21 workstations. The state-of-the-art computer lab is equipped with UPS units and backup batteries, a router for internet connectivity, a server, and thin clients.

The computing facilitator will have access to a dedicated workstation, while students will have access to 20 workstations, ensuring that each learner has their workstation during computing lessons.

The teachers are now equipped, confident, and ready to elevate digital education in their schools. The computer lab includes services for the maintenance, replacement, and repair of damaged computer parts, along with remote monitoring, a help desk, and teacher training.

On November 26th, 2024, afiDE Ghana conducted a base training session for the educators of Fiankonya School to initiate the use of the computer lab. The training covered the fundamental components of RGC’s computer labs, including both hardware and software.

As part of our mandatory service to partners, RGC offers a comprehensive four-stage training program designed to equip teachers with the technological knowledge and skills needed in today’s modern era. This training will enable educators to integrate technology effectively into their teaching and enhance their productivity in the workplace.

The teacher training is valuable for educators, as data indicates that many teachers in Ghana are not technologically or digitally proficient, resulting in a lack of the necessary computing resources to effectively teach students.

The four types of training conducted by afiDE Ghana are;

Base Training: The base training focuses on empowering teachers with the essential skills to effectively utilize our computer labs for teaching. This foundational training ensures educators can confidently navigate the basics and integrate digital tools into their lessons.

Bronze Training: The training is designed specifically for computing facilitators and ICT coordinators, the training enables mastery of the National ICT Curriculum and the full spectrum of our application landscape. It emphasizes challenge-based and project-based learning, preparing facilitators to lead innovative and interactive digital education.

Silver Training: The silver training is also tailored for teachers of other subjects, this training demonstrates how to leverage our computer labs to enhance lessons in STEM, Geography, History, and more. It equips educators with the skills to integrate digital resources into their teaching, enriching the learning experience across diverse disciplines.

Gold Training: This is aimed at experienced computer lab teachers and coordinators, this level focuses on developing them into trainers for their peers. Participants learn to deliver the BASE training, fostering a community of knowledgeable and skilled educators who can support their colleagues in digital teaching.
